Ravindra Jadeja found guilty of level 1 breach, fined half his match fee

Anderson and Jadeja
James Anderson and Ravinra Jadeja have been reportedly in a
physical and verbal altercation during first test.
The International Cricket Council has found the India all-rounder Ravindra Jadega guilty of a level 1 breach of the ICC code of conduct for his altercation with England fast bowler James Anderson during he first test between India and England at Trent Bridge. Ravindra Jadeja was thus fined half of his match fee for the violation of the code of conduct. The decision was made by the ICC match Referee David Boon who initially found Jadeja not guilty of an offense and had fined Anderson instead, found the Indian all-rounder to have violated the article 2.1.8 of the ICC code of conduct, interpreting his altercation with Anderson as 'something against the spirit of the game'.

Following the ICC code, David Boon had set up a hearing at Southampton on Thursday where both the players and their legal counsels were present. The hearing lasted 2.5 hours and both the players recorded their statements orally. The hearing included video footage of the altercation and cross-examination of the witnesses by the lawyers of both the players.

David Boon while giving the decision stated, that he had to be satisfied that the offense occurred to charge Ravi Jadega of the breach under article 2.2.11. He said that he was sure that the altercation did happen and that such incidents shouldn't be happening and are against the spirit of the game. Boon said that he wasn't comfortable finding him of a level two offense, but a level 1 offense was certain.

David Boon is to release a detailed judgement on the case with 48 hours of the verdict as per ICC rules. The level breach in ICC code has a minimum penalty of reprimand of the players involved and a maximum penalty of half of the match fee.

David Boon is a former Australian batsman who is currently working as a match referee at ICC.

The Indian cricket board BCCI however was not pleased with the decision, as one would expect. The BCCI released a statement after the verdict was given, that they're backing Ravindra Jadega, it wasn't his fault that the confrontation happened and that they reserve the right to appeal against the decision.

Ravindra Jaedega and James Anderson were involved in a very ugly confrontation reportedly on July 10 during the lunch break at the Trent Bridge. It was reported that James Andeson confronted Jadega with verbal and physical abuse. While going back to the dressing room, Anderson assaulted Jadega with a physical push and then verbally abusing both Jadega and MS Dhonhi, the Indian captain. Jadega replied with offensive remarks too and the fight went on. The ECB however is backing Anderson, saying that he was equally offensive and MS Dhoni should've stopped him from crossing the limits. MS Dhoni has stated that he was witnessing it and this time around, Jadeja didn't retaliate.
