New Zealand Fast Bowler Williamson banned from bowling due to Illegal bowling action

Kane Williamson, the New Zealand part-time off spinner, has been suspended from bowling in international cricket after his illegal action was found.

Williamson reported a suspicious action after the second Test against the West Indies in Trinidad in June and was sent for testing biomechanics Cardiff Metropolitan University. That test has shown that the extension of the elbow when bowling Williamson exceeds 15 degrees allowed under the rules of the ICC.

As a result of this finding, Williamson has been banned from bowling in all international cricket matches, a suspension can only be lifted if and when he returns to work and their action must similarly found legal by independent evidence. Williamson has stated its intention to focus on repair work to improve their action and hopes to go bowling again in the future.

"I note the conclusions of Dr. Craig Ranson and his team at Cardiff Met and concentrate on changing what needed to return to the bowling crease," Williamson said. "It is clear that the onus is on me to satisfy the reviewers as to the legality of my actions, and I am aware that I have some hard work in front of me to achieve that goal.

"It is never pleasant, going through this kind of process, but worth it if I can go bowling again internationally."

Williamson was reported by umpires Ian Gould, Richard Illingworth and Rod Tucker and the match referee Chris Broad after the Trinity test. At that time, the ICC said the report of the referees of this party had cited "concerns about a number of deliveries that are considered suspicious."

Williamson shot 15.2 overs during that game and its central role in the New Zealand side is like the No.3 batsman, his part-time offbreaks had 24 lands in 40.66 from his 34 Test matches. Mike Hesson, the New Zealand coach, said he was hopeful Williamson would be able to go bowling for his country again.

"Disappointed, Kane clearly - anyone in your situation would feel the same way," Hesson said. "Now we have a challenge on their hands if to roll again at the top level, but we are very hopeful that he can handle it."
