Shhryar Khan elected as the new PCB chairman

Shaharyar Khan has been appointed chairman of the PCB, after he was unanimously elected by the board of governors at a special meeting in Lahore on Monday. He will take over the board of Pakistan with immediate effect. This is his second term as PCB chief.

Khan, 80, was the only person to submit an application for the post of chairman of the August 15 deadline. As the only candidate, he was expected to be voted in opposition.

The PCB recently reworked its constitution, changing the structure of the governing board and make it more democratic appointment of its chairman. The president must be elected from among persons aboard the Coordinating Board of Governors. Khan and Najam Sethi, who had directed and has been banned from the board several times in the last year, have been added to the Board of Governors earlier this month by President Muhammad Sair Ali acting.

The choice should, in theory at least, end the uncertainty about the long-term leadership of the PCB. There had been several changes of leadership in the PCB since May 2013, when Zaka Ashraf became the first elected president PCB. The Islamabad High Court described these 'doubtful' Sethi elections and was put in charge of the government. Ashraf and Sethi were alternately reappointed and dismissed from the post several times.

Previous season of Khan as PCB chief began in December 2003 Then, too, the board was in some turmoil, with accusations of nepotism and financial mismanagement abound, and quickly took steps to repair its reputation. He was in charge when Pakistan forfeited The Oval Test in 2006, after being penalized for ball tampering, and was then criticized for not handling players with sufficient authority. Previously, he had a distinguished political career, including a stint as Foreign Secretary of Pakistan.
